Winter in McCall
The McCall Winter Carnival was established in 1924 and draws thousands of visitors each year to view spectacular ice sculptures and participate in the other festival events.
The first Europeans to arrive in Long Valley were Finnlanders, who settled the community of Roseberry, just south of McCall, and established a quiet, church-centered agricultural town. In contrast, McCall was a wild and woolly place, known for its lakeside dance halls and gambling establishments. With mining and timber the chief industries, McCall quickly became a bustling lake port, using a steamboat to transport timber and ore.
